ProteoxLX Features

Large cooling power with > 25 uW of cooling power available at 20 mK, low base temperature at < 7 mK and twin Pulse Tube Refrigerators (PTR) allows for several watts of dissipation at the 4 K plate (exceptional PTR damping).

Secondary Insert

The Proteox dilution refrigerator Secondary Insert is a customisable, self-supporting module for installation and exchange of full experimental set-ups.

Overview

Moving beyond standard access ports, the Secondary Insert can accommodate full experimental set-ups, including DC wiring, coaxial wiring and signal conditioning components.

  • Flexible, modular format enhances adaptability to varied application requirements
  • Large 117 mm × 252 mm rectangular LOS access port. This can be configured as a single customisable plate, or with 2 × ISO100 ports and a range of standard options 
  • The Secondary Insert can be ordered with our patented bottom loading system as an option. This enables rapid sample exchange and can be coupled with magnet integration.

ISO100 Port Configurations

A standard configuration of 2 x ISO100 ports, with multiple ISO100 options to provide experimental wiring.

  • Up to 37 UT85 coax per ISO100 port
  • Blanking plate option with tapped M3 grid array for mounting of experimental hardware.


Optional Blank Plates Instead Of SI

  • Blanking plate with tapped M3 grid array option if SI not required.

ISO100 Port Configurations

A standard configuration of 2 x ISO100 ports, with multiple ISO100 options to provide experimental wiring.

  • Up to 37 UT85 coax per ISO100 port
  • Include DC and coax combinations on a single ISO100 port
  • Blanking plate option with tapped M3 grid array for mounting of experimental hardware.

Custom Configuration

  • Components can be directly mounted onto the Secondary Insert plate, creating a platform tailored to your experiment
  • Custom configurations enable up to 128 UT85 coax lines per Secondary Insert
  • Customisable insert for experimental wiring optimisation
  • Componentss mounted directly onto the SI to maximise space.

Cryogenic Low Noise Amplifiers And RF Components

A selection of low noise amplifiers, isolators and circulators can be integrated into the wiring configuration.

  • Custom bracketry for mounting hardware - amplifiers, isolators etc.
  • Signal conditioning mounted in-line to maximise the number of components.

      System

      • Fully redeveloped gas handling system to ensure the minimum number of connections and o-ring seals
      • Cross-braced stiffened frame that minimizes vibration transmission eliminating the need for active damping

        900 μW dilution unit:

        • Base temperature: < 7 mK
        • Cooling power at 20 mK: 25 μW
        • Cooling power at 100 mK: > 850 μW
        • Line-of-sight access:  2 off Secondary Insert (117 mm × 252 mm) 4 × KF25
        • Temperature control range: 7 mK to 30 K with magnet at full field
        • Sample space: 530 mm diameter mixing chamber plate
        • 50 L of He-3 gas

        500 μW dilution unit:

        • Base temperature: < 10 mK
        • Cooling power at 20 mK: 12 μW
        • Cooling power at 100 mK: 450 μW
        • Temperature control range: 10 mK to 30 K with magnet at full field 
        • Sample space: 530 mm diameter mixing chamber plate
        • 18 L of He-3 gas

        Flexible Wiring

        • 24-way twisted-pair DC looms with copper, constantan or NbTi conductors
        • Flexible coaxial (S1) wiring for use up to 500 MHz
        • Single-mode and multi-mode optical fibres
        • Thermo-coaxes for effective filtering of high-frequency noise
        • Low-impedance looms suitable for nano-positioning piezo devices.

        Line-of-sight wiring

        • UT34 and UT85 coax with SMA or SK connectors for 18 GHz or 40 GHz bandwidth operation
        • Range of coax conductors including stainless-steel, CuNi and NbTi
        • Heat sinking using bulkhead connectors at all experimental plates with optional 0 dB attenuators for efficient conductor thermalisation.

        Attenuators

        Attenuators can be selected per line and per plate; 0 dB attenuators for conductor thermalisation; 3 dB, 6 dB, 10 dB and 20 dB attenuators.

        Low Pass Filters

        Low-pass multi-stage filters can be mounted for use at temperatures to below 100 mK.

        • 4 cut-off frequencies available between 170 Hz and 110 kHz.
        • Gold plated copper chassis with RF gaskets to provide screening and thermal dumping for the filter PCB.
        • Easy sample exchange without the need to warm the entire system to room temperature
        • Loading a sample puck takes < 15 minutes and the system automatically cools back to base temperature
        • Up to 28 RF and 96 DC connections on a single sample puck
        • Ideal solution for multi-user facilities since different experiments can be prepared in multiple sample pucks
        • Patented loading concept allows for safe and easy operation
        • ESD protection (make-before-break) via sample grounding or biasing before the puck docks with the system.

        Solenoid Magnets

        • Range of field strengths from 1 T to 14 T
        • High filament count for reduced size, high sweep rate and low flux jumping
        • Large bore sizes from 77 mm to 152 mm diameter across the solenoid magnet range
        • Maximum sweep rate of 2 Amp/minute
        • Quench protected.

        Vector Rate Magnets

        • 3 axis vector magnets with a vertical field up to 9 T and a horizontal field up to 3 T
        • 90 mm large bore across all high field vector rotate options.

        Customised Magnets

        • Customised options for improved homogeneity, persistence stability or field resolution
        • Specialised capability for advanced magnet design including split pair and actively shielded magnet systems.
