The Sir Martin Wood Science Prize for Japan is awarded annually by the Millennium Science Forum to a young researcher from a Japanese University or research institute who has performed outstanding research in the area of condensed matter physics, inorganic-organic chemistry, material science and surface-interface physics.
The Millennium Science Forum was established in 1999 to promote scientific exchange between Britain and Japan.
The Sir Martin Wood Prize Selection Committee comprise of 10 senior professors who select the winner from candidates who have been nominated for the prize.
The prize is named after Sir Martin Wood, who was the Founder and Honorary President of Oxford Instruments plc. The Sir Martin Wood Prize winner receives ¥500,000 in cash and the unique opportunity to give invited lectures at UK Universities. The “Sir Martin Wood Prize lectures” have acquired an excellent reputation in UK Universities and contribute to the science and technology exchange between Japan and the UK.
Dr Shunichiro, Associate Professor from the School of Frontier Science, The University of Tokyo, Japan is the winner of the 2022 Sir Martin Wood Prize.
Dr Shunichiro Watanabe has been awarded for his work on the "Creation of crystalline organic and polymeric semiconductors with excellent charge and spin transport properties."
